Poecilotheria miranda (Bengal Spotted Ornamental Tarantula)

Poecilotheria miranda (Bengal Spotted Ornamental Tarantula) for sale

This stunning and rare arboreal species features large white and smaller black bands on the legs, with purple femurs and carapace, and that iconic "arrowhead" pattern indicative of Ornamental or "Pokie" tarantulas. The entire body is also covered in longer hairs that often give this species an orange-blushing appearance on the legs as well.

Poecilotheria, or "Pokies," are a group of large arboreal tarantulas from Asia that we consider to be the "apex tarantula predators."

Not only does Poecilotheria include the largest arboreal tarantulas, but they are also high-canopy dwellers that tend to hunt larger prey—like lizards and perhaps even birds—which sets them apart from most tarantulas that primarily feed on insects. This may be one reason why their venom is considered more potent.

While these do perfectly fine on insects like any other tarantulas, we’ve observed that many successful breeders of "Pokies" will feed their females lizards or frozen-thawed mouse meat to encourage them to produce large, healthy egg sacs.

Even the anatomy and coloration of these tarantulas is highly unique. Their body proportions are extremely elongated, they have even larger toe pads than some other arboreals, and their intricate patterns allow them to hide in plain sight against tree bark in the high canopy.
